San Francisco Declaration on Research Evaluation (DORA)

DORA Logo DORA Signatory

The San Francisco Declaration on Research Evaluation (DORA) is a global initiative aimed at improving practices in research evaluation. It calls for an end to the use of journal impact factors as the sole criterion for evaluating scientific work and promotes more comprehensive and fair evaluation methods.

Key principles of DORA:

Rejection of impact factor

Ending the use of journal impact factor to evaluate individual articles or researchers

Comprehensive evaluation

Evaluating research based on its scientific value, not on the prestige of the journal

Language inclusivity

Recognizing research published in all languages

Open science

Supporting open science practices and diversity of publication formats

Joining DORA

Alignment with DORA principles

Joining DORA fully aligns with the strategic goals of our institute. Reducing reliance on journal impact factors will allow our researchers to:

  • Publish research results in Tajik and Russian
  • Focus on the practical significance of research for the region
  • Expand the range of journals available for publication
  • Increase the visibility of research relevant to Central Asia
